Mendenhall is one of a number of delegates to the Democratic pre-primary convention who cast their nominating ballot for the Republican seeking to unseat incumbent Democrat Martin Heinrich as the Congressman from New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District. One Year After Stimulus Passage, New Mexicans Still Looking for Work
Albuquerque, NM- Jon Barela, Republican candidate for New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District, issued the following statement today on the one-year anniversary of the president's signing of the $787 billion dollar stimulus bill:
“My opponent, Martin Heinrich, supported the so-called stimulus bill, promising in January of last year that it would create jobs and provide 'swift economic relief' for New Mexicans. Unfortunately, on the most important issue facing our state - high unemployment - Heinrich hasn't delivered. Instead, showing a total lack of independence, he has marched in lock-step behind his party leadership as they have pushed for higher taxes, dramatically increased spending, and supported a costly and distracting domestic agenda that increases the government's role in our daily lives. That's not a recipe for job creation."

JON BARELA BECOMES THE OFFICIAL REPUBLICAN NOMINEE FOR NEW MEXICO’S FIRST CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
Albuquerque, NM- Jon Barela submitted the required candidate filing paperwork and petition signatures to the New Mexico Secretary of State, officially becoming the Republican nominee for New Mexico’s First Congressional District. Barela was the only Republican to file paperwork for the 2010 election cycle; as such, he will run unopposed in June's primary election and will challenge incumbent Martin Heinrich in November's general election.
“I'm honored to be a candidate for Congress, I'm humbled by the support we've received from New Mexicans within the First Congressional District and beyond, and I look forward to earning the trust of voters in the months ahead," said Jon Barela.
